Pakku-Sikkim Mutton Curry

Pakku is a traditional mutton curry which is very popular in the North east states and even in Nepal. Very simple to make and yet delicious Pakku will conquer the hearts . Well goes with steamed rice and traditional breads Pakku can be serve in any occasions. In Sikkim Pakku is a common dish in many occasions and the recipe given is taken from there. Mutton pieces marinated with spices mix and cook directly is perfect to make the dish.

 500 g Mutton
 15 g Ginger
 15 g Garlic
 100 g Onion
 1 tsp Cumin
 1 tsp Coriander
 5 Cardamom
 4 Cloves
 1 Cinnamon
 ¼ tsp Nutmeg powder
 ¼ tsp Hing
 ½ tsp Turmeric powder
 Salt -to taste
 50 ml Oil
 1 tbsp Vinegar
 1 tbsp Chopped coriander
 2 Green chilli

Wash and drain the mutton. Peel the onion and chop finely. Peel the ginger and garlic and grind to a paste.

Dry roast the whole spices such as cumin, coriander, cardamom, cinnamon and cloves. Grind it to a fine powder

Mix the mutton with ground spices, ginger garlic paste, chopped onion, hing, turmeric powder, vinegar and salt. Keep aside for 1 hour.

Heat the oil in a pot, add the marinated meat and fry well till it starts leaving the water. Add 1 cup of water and simmer in a slow fire till it tender

Check the seasoning and remove from the fire. Garnish with chopped coriander and fried green chillies. Serve hot with Steamed rice or any Indian breads.
