Tomato chutney is an easy to make condiment for our Indian homes. made with fresh ripe tomatoes with spices and the tempering with curry leaves, mustard and asfoetida makes tomato chutney a delicious one and and good accompaniment to the breakfast dishes such as Dosa, Idli, Upma etc. If you are tired having the regular coconut chutney for the breakfast, here is an alternate option which you can have a try. The hot and tangy chutney will tickles your tastebuds, for sure.

 500 g Tomatoes
 2 Dried red chilli
 1 tsp Urad dal
 1 tsp Fried channa
 15 g Ginger
 15 g Garlic
 ¼ tsp Turmeric powder
 Salt to taste
 2 tbsp Oil
For tempering
 1 tbsp Oil
 1 tsp Mustard seeds
 1 Curry leaf
 1 Red chilli
 1 Asafoetida
 ¼ tsp Kashmiri chilli powder

Wash and chop the tomatoes. Peel and chop the ginger and garlic.

Heat oil, splutter urad dal, channa dal and red chilli. Add the ginger and garlic and fry well.Add turmeric and fry for a minute.

Add the tomatoes and saute well. add half cup water and salt, simmer gently. Cook till the tomatoes are mushy. Remove from the fire, coo it and grind to a fine paste.

For tempering heat the oil, splutter mustard seeds, red chilli, curry leaves, Add asafoetida and chilli powder. Quick fry and add the tomato chutney and heat gently and remove.

Serve hot with Dosa or Idli.
